CULTURE OF OAXACA JANUARY 2-12, 2026
The capital city of Oaxaca de Juarez, is the home base for this tour to the rich and fertile state of Oaxaca in Southern Mexico.

This elegant Spanish Colonial city, named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1987, offers an abundance of museums and markets, architectural and artistic wonders, excellent shopping opportunities around every corner, and arguably the best street art in the world.

We'll stay at the Casa de las Bugambilias B&B, a lovely family-run inn located just a few blocks from virtually everything. We're taking over the whole house, so it really will feel like home...except someone else will be making breakfast!

In the outlying valleys we will visit the homes, workshops, and studios of artisans where a vast variety of the renowned fine and folk art and traditional crafts of Oaxaca are created.

We will visit villages where ceramics both utilitarian and decorative are made, wood is carved and painted into fantastical figures, rugs and fabrics are woven, sewn, and embroidered..and more.

The Ancient Mixtec and Zapotec ruins of Oaxaca offer yet another interesting area to explore and our trip will include in-depth guided visits to important sites.

As if all that were not enough, Oaxaca is world renowned for its complex and delicious regional cuisine. Our culinary experiences — in cooking classes, casual farm-to-table settings, humble homes, and fine dining establishments — will allow us to savor a wide array of these glorious Oaxacan culinary specialties during our stay.
